Dan was born and raised in South Lyon and graduated from SLHS in June of 2008.
His parents and older sister still live here. Dan has been a friend of Greg Morgan since the
8th grade, about 6 years. During high school, Dan played football, baseball, and basketball. He was physically ready for the
military, but his academic discipline was good enough to get him only through the first 3 weeks of college. At
the point, he quit college and decided to pursue thoughts that he had entertained about the military since his sophomore year.
The marines, he believes, will teach him better discipline. He plans to return to college when his
4 years in the service is completed. He has the full support of his parents and sister.
On November 26, 2008, Dan enlisted and served his 3 month boot-camp
at Parris Island, SC. He came home for a visit before heading to Camp Geiger, NC, for SOI (school of infantry)
training, which includes artillery, rifle, machine gun, mortar, and toe gunner (atop a Hummer) specialties. Dan
wants to be a toe gunner. From there, Dan will be shipped to Camp Lejeune, NC, until his deployment. His first deployment will be to Afghanistan, which
he states, “… will be an interesting experience.” He hopes that one day he’ll
be stationed at Camp Okinawa, Japan, where weekend leaves can be spent at various leisure spots – Australia, Hong Kong,
Tokyo, among others, where he will scuba dive, surf, and see the sights.
Dan would like to receive mail from home while in Afghanistan. He will send us his email address
when he gets there. He enjoys reading Auto Trader magazine to stay current on what’s being sold and
at what price. He likes comedy movies, as well as action and military. White socks disintegrate
quickly in physical training exercises and can be used to cool the neck. Dan wears a size 14 shoe.
He prefers Tinactin foot powder. .
Dan asks that we pray that
he “doesn’t get shot in the head.” Please pray he is successful in living “alone”
(without friends and family), doesn’t get depressed, and maintains hope for every new day.
